CV of H. E. Mr. Abdul Motaleb Sarker, Ambassador
Ambassador Abdul Motaleb Sarker assumed charge as the Ambassador of Bangladesh in Lebanon on 12 August 2015.
As a career diplomat, Ambassador Sarker served in various capacities both in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Dhaka as well as in the Bangladesh Missions abroad.
Prior to his appointment as Bangladesh Ambassador to Lebanon, Ambassador Sarker served as the Director General, SAARC & BIMSTEC Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka from April 2013 to August 2015. During this period, he was directly involved with the establishment of the ‘Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Secretariat’ in Dhaka in 2014. Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina, the Hon’ble Prime Minister officially inaugurated the Secretariat on 13 September 2014.
In Bangladesh Missions abroad, Ambassador Sarker served in the Embassy of Bangladesh in Beijing as Minister (Political Affairs) & Deputy Chief of Mission from April 2010 to March 2013. He served as Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission in the Embassy of Bangladesh in Paris, France from November 2006 to March 2010. He was also the Deputy Permanent Delegate of Bangladesh to the UNESCO in Paris during the same period. He served in the Embassy of Bangladesh in Rabat Morocco as First Secretary/ Counsellor from December 2001-September 2004; and in the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Los Angeles, USA from October 1998 to December 2001 as Second Secretary/ First Secretary.
In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has served in various capacities including as Assistant Secretary (SAARC), Assistant Secretary (Policy & Organization), Director (South Asia), Director (South East Asia), Director (Far East) and as Director General (SAARC & BIMSTEC).
Mr. Sarker received various professional trainings both at home and abroad including at the Asia Pacific Centre for Security Studies (APCSS) in Hawaii, Honolulu, USA.
He has so far visited more than 20 countries either as a member of Bangladesh delegation or as a head of the delegation.
Before joining the Foreign Service, he also served as an Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate of the Government of Bangladesh for several years.
He was graduated from the Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University, Dhaka in 1990.
Ambassador Sarker hails from Comilla, Bangladesh. He is married to Ms. Sadia Ferdous and is blessed with a daughter and a son.
